This project commemorates Alexandra Stréliski’s album Néo-Romance. Stréliski is a classically trained pianist from Montreal, who is well known for creating the soundtracks for many of Jean-Marc Vallée’s movies such as the Dallas Buyers Club. Since then, she has released her own instrumental albums based on her own personal experiences. Néo-Romance is based on her trip to Amsterdam, rediscovering her family’s history. The key challenge was to create a poster and 7 inch vinyl to commemorate the romantic vibe of the album.

The final image chosen for the composition came through a series of explorations with water and food colouring dye; while taking the image I moved the camera by accident, which resulted in a dynamic blurred effect. The blurriness in conjunction with the specs of light worked well for the poster, as it manages to convey a nostalgic sensibility. Following the movement of the image, I added white bold type to emphasize the motion, in addition to adding semi-transparent type in the background to further highlight the reflective nature of the music. The vinyl packaging uses other takes from the same photoshoot. Spot varnish is used on the vinyl cover to replicate the translucent type from the poster.
